MUSICAL EXERCISES TO EXPLORE AND TRANSFORM RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE MORE-THAN-HUMAN – presentation/workshop

This workshop will be comprised of a lecture on three examples of works andartistic processes that transform how artists relate to non-human others. These examples include the opera Tree of Codes by composer Liza Lim, the bird photography of Walter Kitundu, and the traditional “Women Songs” of the Comca’ac people. In conclusion, Luis Fernando will give some examples of how he explores his relationships with non-human animals, plants, and collective memory respectively through composition.

“A LANGUAGE MADE OF WHISPERS”: COLLECTIVE MEMORY THROUGH EXPERIMENTAL AND TRADITIONAL MEXICAN MUSIC

Mixing storytelling, traditional music, and experimental live electronics, “a language made of whispers” is a show that spotlights the complex and contrasting sets of collective memory that arise from the area that we now call México. Composed and performed by Luis Fernando Amaya, this show aims to share a glimpse of the intricate connections between the different cultures, voices (human and non-human), and historical periods that conflate into the reality of contemporary México.
